That’s why we’re focusing on making the most of places closer to home.
One of the perfect places to visit near Derby is Carsington Water, a reservoir that can be found just outside the Peak District, near Ashbourne.

If you give it a google, you’ll likely be met with links to BBC Countryfile which feature it on its list of best walks in Derbyshire.
Carsington Water is more than a place to walk, with bird hides, a wildlife centre and water sports available, it is the ultimate location for a summer day in the sun.
We suggest packing a picnic and hiring a paddleboard for the day. You could even get a sit-on kayak if you’re feeling adventurous.

“Explore the surrounding wildflower meadows, reedbeds, ponds and woodlands, taking on the role of wildlife detective with young ones. Hunt pondlife, spiders and minibeasts.”
