What’s On Derby: Paralympic medallist to thrill Derby crowds at city’s leading comedy night in Dubrek Studios

A comedy night filled with award-winning artists including a Paralympic medallist is set to thrill Derby crowds today (Tuesday June 11, 2024).

Disabled Cants will perform a special edition show at Dubrek Studios in Derby that promises an ‘unforgettable’ showcase featuring talented, disabled comedians.

The line-up is packed with comedic talent to tickle all your funny bones.

Headliner Ricky Balshaw, whose experience includes Paralympic Dressage medallist, means the comedy night could be like nothing seen before in Derby.

Organisers said: ‘Stepping over his cerebral palsy like it’s the mildest of inconveniences, Ricky pulls his audience into a joyfully dark world of self-deprecating hilarity. A brilliant joke-smith and storyteller, this young man has comedy greatness in his bones.’

Support on the night will come from Hollie Noble, George Coppen, Colin Etches and Bazza Moden.

Who are Disabled Cants

Disabled Cants is a comedy show that was started by Steve Day in 2022 for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Keen to platform disabled performers, Steve has overseen the show that has grown over the years to create a safe, welcome space that organisers say is a ‘raucous and joyous celebration of disabled identity.’
