Wirksworth Book Festival 2024 gears up for weekend packed with fun author events
There will be a book fair and vintage market too
Bibliophiles can indulge in a weekend of bookish fun at a local book festival in Derbyshire.
Wirksworth Book Festival is set to return on Saturday April 20, 2024, turning the town into a haven celebrating all things bookish.
Streets, markets and venues across the town centre are expected to take part and embrace a love for books.
All that book fun is bound to make you hungry. One vendor is The Vegan Spice Co who will be serving up delights including Samosa French Toastie, Mumbai Muffin Dahl, chocolate desserts and more.
The festival features national and local authors talking about their work, including Tricia Durdey who will give an aerial performance while talking about her memoir Upside Down In A Hoop.
Genres featured in the book festival include historical fiction, poetry, crime, manga, comics and the outdoors.
There will also be writing workshops, drop-in craft activities and the chance to have your fortune told by I Ching.
Kirk Ireton Light Programme will perform one of their atmospheric readings of The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in the historic Moot Hall, which is one of the festival’s highlights.
For book fans wanting to stock up their book shelves, there will be a large book fair and vintage market.
The famous book quiz is also back after a break, on its Sunday evening slot.
As well as being a fun challenge raising money for Aquabox, people can also test their knowledge on all types of books and authors.

Wirksworth Book Festival is a not-for-profit event organised by Wirksworth Traders Community Events CIC and other members of the community.
Book Festival co-organiser Bill Bevan said: “The book festival has been established as one of Wirksworth’s major annual events since 2016.
“We are delighted to run it again this year and see the level of interest from authors, illustrators and local businesses.
“Reading brings people together and that’s what we aim to do on April 20.
“Big thanks go to our main sponsor, TDP, manufacturers of recycled plastic furniture.”
Events will be held across the town centre of Wirksworth.
