I tried Costa Coffee’s new festive treat range and can’t stop thinking about the chocolate orange muffin
Muffins, mince pies and maple blondies all star on the coffee shop’s seasonal menu
Dipping temperatures and the unrelenting march of time means now is the time for fun festivities to begin.
Halloween and Bonfire Night are fabulous precursors to Christmas, so it is only fitting that one of the nation’s popular coffee shops rolls out its festive range.
I visited Costa Coffee in Derbion shopping centre to try out their sweet treats for these three aforementioned events.
This store is on the ground floor near the Marks and Spencer branch and there is also another Costa Coffee branch on East Street just outside Derbion.
The first cake I tried was Terry’s Chocolate Orange Muffin, which definitely sounds like an autumnal treat.
Terry’s Chocolate Orange Muffin at Costa Coffee
It is a chocolate orange flavoured sponge, filled with chocolate orange sauce and topped a Terry’s Chocolate Orange segment.

Chocolate orange is decadent and could also be a great Christmas time treat.
I found the muffin to be moist and with a tender crumb.
I love Terry’s Chocolate Orange and found Costa Coffee’s muffin did this top ingredient great justice.
A pro-tip is that if you’re eating this muffin as a takeaway at home, it is even more delicious when heated up for around one minute in the microwave.
The heat rendered the sauce molten, whilst the chocolate orange segment melted into a delectable puddle on the plate, making this muffin even more luxurious to eat.
Maple and Hazelnut Blondie at Costa Coffee
Maple and Hazelnut Blondie is one for those who love the nutty, fragrant taste of maple syrup.

The base was buttery, squishy and, really good.
I enjoyed crunchy hazelnuts, and would have liked to see more of these in the blondie, but this is a personal preference.
The taste of maple syrup is a little on the strong side for me, but fans of maple syrup flavour will be ordering this in their droves.
All Butter Mince Pie at Costa Coffee
This is a buttery pastry tart filled with mincemeat, topped with a pastry decoration and finished with a sugar dusting.

How much you like Costa Coffee’s mince pie, will depend on how much you love mince filling.
I personally prefer minimal mincemeat, which is why I really enjoyed this mince pie.
I was a fan of the buttery pastry too, which felt a little like eating shortbread in texture.
Overall Costa Coffee have a really strong festive range.
The clear winner for me is that chocolate orange muffin, which I will be sure to get again very soon.
