Derby County took on Queens Park Rangers at Pride Park Stadium on Saturday October 5, 2024.
The Rams’ win of 2-0 against Queens Park Rangers is a result that left DCFC manager Paul Warne “really pleased”.
Marcus Harness’ first Derby County goal helped to secure all three points in the Sky Bet Championship as Derby County defeated Queens Park Rangers on home turf.
Two quickfire goals from defender Curtis Nelson and on-loan Ipswich Town attacker Harness put the Rams in control in the second period.
It is the tenacious Rams’ fourth win from five games at home in the Championship so far this term.
A steady start from both teams saw little in the way of clear-cut chances.
Derby came close in the 21st minute with Nyambe’s low delivery into the box, for Harness to latch onto.
QPR goalkeeper Paul Nardi had other plans and got his body behind the ball to quash the danger.
An opportunistic shot from Rangers’ striker Michael Frey in the 85th minute looked to threaten Derby’s sixth clean sheet of the season, but the strike failed to find the back of the net.
Derby entered the international break with a clean sheet to their name.
The match was attended by 29,305 fans.
Derby boss Paul Warne was “really pleased” with the result. He said: “In the second half we were better and created good chances and did enough to win. We were more aggressive on the press and a little bit more positive in the final third.
“We have to be at our very best to beat anybody in this league and at times we have been and still haven’t won. I’m really proud of the group, it’s a great group to manage.
“We’ve been unlucky on a couple of results. We could have had more points but we’ve played some really good teams. There’s a lot to be pleased about."
QPR boss Marti Cifuentes was more reflective about his team that ‘needed support’.
He said: “It’s not a good performance; I need to help the players to perform at their best. I’m not here to point any fingers, mistakes are part of the game but we can play much better.
“There are some things we need to improve. I’m not happy, no manager in the world would be happy after three defeats (in a row), but there’s a lot of time to improve as a team.”
