Video shows happy tiger devouring giant pumpkin at Twycross Zoo
Only a very special pumpkin will do for this female Sumatran tiger Jahly, who can be seen enjoying her Halloween treat.
It's a happy Halloween for a tiger at a Midlands Zoo, who has been filmed enjoying a tasty pumpkin treat.
Jahly is a female Sumatran tiger who has got her paws on pumpkins galore. The six-year-old tiger has been enjoying giant pumpkins to celebrate the spooky season.
These are not just any old pumpkins, but more of a meaty surprise, as the insides have been scooped out and filled with Jahly’s favourite treat - chicken.
Jahly lives in her state-of-the-art habitat at Twycross Zoo (less than an hour away from Derby).
As Sumatran tigers are one of the rarest species, Jahly is one of a dwindling number of tigers in the world.
The Sumatran tiger population faces challenges such as habitat loss and poaching.
To help protect the species, Twycross Zoo is part of the EAZA Ex-Situ breeding programme, which exists to support and preserve the wild population of the Sumatran tiger.
What else is on at Twycross Zoo in 2023?
During half-term, families can enjoy October Fiesta which runs from Saturday October 28 - Sunday November 5.
It is an event inspired by the Mexican celebration Dia de Los Muertos where people can expect rhythms of Mariachi Loco, awe-inspiring stilt performers, mask-making, plus a new animal trail to delight the whole family.
Other experiences include ranger talks where you learn more about snow leopards and Ecuadorian Amazon parrots.
You can also watch spider monkeys, gibbons, penguins, Aldabra tortoises and great apes during feeding time, as you can see these beautiful creatures exist in their protected habitat.
