The pretty drinking and dining establishment in Oakham, festooned with summery plants and flowers, has fans in high places.
A dish from the team at Hitchen’s Barn has made the coveted list of Michelin Guide Inspectors’ Dishes of the Month.
Every month the inspectors put together a monthly curation of the most creative, memorable and downright delicious dishes of the month, from their latest culinary travels throughout Great Britain and Ireland.
Hitchen’s Barn in Oakham, which is around 90 minutes away from Derby city centre has been mentioned by Michelin inspectors for their dreamy dessert.
Banana Panna Cotta, chocolate mousse and honeycomb is one of the dishes highly raved about, and which has been described as ‘delicious’ and the perfect end to a meal.
Michelin said: ‘When done right, a panna cotta is a thing of beauty. This one [at Hitchen’s Barn] was just set, as it should be, with a wonderful wobble.
‘It harboured a deliciously pure banana flavour, which showed the skill of the kitchen, as banana is not the easiest of fruits to extract flavour from.
‘This was accompanied by a creamy dark chocolate mousse, which married excellently with the banana flavours, and some slices of caramelised banana.
‘Finally, the honeycomb added a textural contrast and extra sweetness. What a great way to finish a meal!’
Hitchen’s Barn is highly commended by diners on Tripadvisor too.
The eatery holds the number one spot as the top restaurant in Oakham.
Recent diners wowed by cuisine say the food is ‘absolutely superb’, ‘good value for money’ and ‘wonderful, beautiful food’.
