National Restaurant Awards 2024: Michelin star restaurant near Derby lands place on UK's top 100
It is Staffordshire’s first and only one star eatery where locals can’t seem to get enough of top-quality dining
A restaurant near Derby has added to its already bulging trophy cabinet by being featured on a list of best eateries in the UK.
Upstairs By Tom Shepherd is just 45 minutes’ away from Derby city centre.
The Lichfield eatery that already has one Michelin star and three AA Rosettes, has been named by the National Restaurant Awards to feature on their top 100 list.
Upstairs By Tom Shepherd came 46th, beating culinary heavyweights Gordon Ramsay, Sat Bains and Simon Rogan.
Modern British cooking is what locals are loving.
Tom Shepherd is the chef cooking up a storm in the kitchen.
He has worked in some of the UK’s top kitchens including Adam’s Birmingham, The Latymer Bagshot and Restaurant Sat Bains Nottingham.
Tom Shepherd’s eatery has been rated for its focus on ‘flavour-led, produce driven dishes that embrace the seasons, impeccable presentation and unfussy yet assured cooking.’
Current menus offer vegetarian and pescatarian options including Orkney scallop with peanut satay, Pink Fir winter truffle and banana caramel rum dessert.

Writing on social media, the restaurant said: ‘So incredibly proud of the whole team to be named number 46 at this year’s National Restaurant Awards.’
The awards have been celebrating brilliant restaurants since 2007, acknowledging the very best chefs, front of house staff and restaurants across the country.
Organisers of the awards say it is the largest annual gathering of top chefs and restaurateurs in the UK.
This year’s ceremony took place on Monday June 10 at Magazine in London’s Docklands for the first time.
