I discover Subway’s new jacket potatoes are beautifully cooked spuds and ace work-from-home lunch

Subway have launched a new jacket potato range with trial flavours including Heinz Beans.
I am always intrigued by hybrid foods where two or more concept dishes are mushed together to create something fresh. Think cruffins (croissant and muffins) and brookies (brownies and cookies).

Hide AdJacket potatoes are a classic dish beloved the world over and it’s easy to see why; what’s not to love about fluffy hot potatoes loaded with just-melted butter?
I wondered how Subway would make the traditional dish their own, which is how I found myself outside a Derby Subway branch.
It did feel a little odd seeing the jacket potato prepped on the counter, instead of the usual foot-long bread sub.

I had the veggie plant patty which was a very generous portion loaded with tonnes of fresh veggies.

I really enjoyed it, but what I loved the most was the texture of the potato, which was soft and tender.
I think Subway should extend the trial and make jacket potatoes a permanent fixture, because they are versatile and can easily be batch made in advance, thereby combatting a potential lunchtime rush.
I cannot wait to try other fillings and hope I don’t end up looking like a potato after all the carb goodness that I intend to eat over the coming weeks.
