Historic cathedral city crowned 'tourism capital' as home stays soar in East Midlands
In the East Midlands, Lincoln had the highest searches per capita, with approximately 1 in 5 people searching for keywords covering domestic tourism.
The latest figures from Visit Britain indicate Brits are spending more on domestic tourism, as people aim to maximise the amount of experiences without the need to travel abroad.
Travel experts at Broad Tours analysed figures by individual areas in England, discovering some regions had a much higher concentration of searches than others.
In the East Midlands, Lincoln had the highest searches per capita, with approximately 1 in 5 people searching for keywords covering domestic tourism.

Rounding out the top 3 were Derby and Northampton placed second and third respectively.
Greg Munford of Broads Tours said: “Over the past few years, the way people spend both their money and their leisure time has started to shift.
“Brits are looking for experiences and we know from current trends that they’ve moved towards two or three shorter holidays per year, rather than the more traditional two week block.
“The result of this means that people are often looking to find something closer to home, spending on multiple day trips or an overnight stay, in order to take a break without having to go too far from home.”
Greg added: “Although the top three areas may not have had the highest overall number of searches, we can see there’s a clear difference in the ratio of searches to population.
