Hubble, bubble, boil and trouble may be a witch’s poem, however fans of magic can literally spend the day learning enchantments, spells and more.

Wirksworth Wizarding Day is a time where fans of Harry Potter can indulge in all things magic and get into the ‘spirit’ by dressing up in costume.

It is the event’s fifth annual outing this year which falls on Sunday October 6, 2024 in Wirksworth, Derbyshire.

Local shops are expected to get involved and there will be food and drink available too.

The event’s co-creators are Bill and Sally-Anne.

They initially started Wirksworth Wizarding Day as an idea to promote the town, local charities and to create a fun space for wizarding fans in the region.

The first event in 2018 saw approximately 7,000 attendees descend on the small market town on a crisp October day.

Since then, the event has gained a solid following, with independent businesses and traders getting involved to put on a day filled with magic and mayhem.

Last year’s event saw Wirksworth host fabulous spell making activities, ‘wizardly’ markets, face painting, broom rides and more.

It may be over a decade since the final Harry Potter film (Death Hallows Part 2) was released, however diehard fans of ‘the boy who lived’ continue to be loud and proud ‘Potterheads.’

The 2023 event was also a successful fundraiser, bringing in over £3,000 for the Wirksworth Skatepark, Wirksworth Colts FC, the PDSA and the Fire Fighters’ Charity.

This year’s event will take place on Sunday October 6.
