However, an event by Derby’s Cathedral Quarter will have you grabbing your phone as you shoot and point to find… dinosaurs.

The Dino World Trail is taking place in Derby and organisers have billed the event as an ‘extraordinary adventure’.

Augmented reality (AR) gives people the chance to experience Derby as never seen before.

You can discover hidden dinosaurs in a thrilling scavenger hunt and it doesn’t cost you anything.

The free immersive event is available now until Sunday, September 8, 2024.

Organised by the Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID), the Dino World Trail encourages both families and solo adventurers to seek out special QR codes.

These are displayed in the windows of shops, restaurants, and other businesses in the Cathedral Quarter.

This means you can plan your day out in Derby packed with shopping, good food and of course, scary dinosaurs.

By scanning these QR codes at the shops, aspiring dinosaur collectors can hatch virtual dinosaur eggs, bringing these prehistoric creatures to life through the magic of AR.

Each of the ten locations around the city houses a unique dinosaur egg, waiting to be discovered and hatched.

People who collect all ten dinosaur eggs will earn a variety of prizes, including a digital puzzle pack and the ability to take AR selfies with each collected dinosaur.

Eve Taylor, BID project executive for Derby Cathedral Quarter said: “We are delighted to be hosting Derby’s very own Dino Trail and know that families will enjoy the chance to collect each unique dinosaur.

“Free events like this are great for attracting more people to the city centre and helping them to discover more of the Cathedral Quarter’s fantastic independent businesses.”
