Top employers in the UK 2026: Derby businesses shine on Financial Times ranking
Four local businesses appear on the Financial Times list which ranks 500 of the best employers in the country.
A list of the top employers in the UK has been released, and four Derby and Derbyshire businesses are featured.
The Financial Times and Statista have released the UK’s Best Employers ranking which is a 500-strong list based on a survey which sought input from approximately 20,000 workers.
Employees shared their thoughts on their company across various areas including salary, conditions of work, image of the company and development potential.
The list was dominated by southern giants Cambridge, Reading and London in terms of where businesses anchored their headquarters.
The Financial Times reported the ‘dominant industry sector was Healthcare & Social, with the biggest number of companies represented, followed by Education, IT and Internet, and Retail & Wholesale’.
Several businesses in Derby and wider Derbyshire have made the list.
Bionical Solutions, a digital solutions company in Derby came in at 166 on the list with a score of 80.78.
Derbyshire based Hydro, an aluminium and renewable energy company placed 184 on the list with a score of 79.73.
Derby based construction company Breedon placed 306 on the list with a 76.41 score on the list.
University of Derby came in at 334 with a 75.56 score.
The Financial Times conducted the survey using online access panels, gleaning data from over 200,000 evaluations, after which, top performers were then identified.
Workers were consulted anonymously via online panels and not through their employers. This method means the employee could be free to share their true thoughts and bypass any employer influence.
