With two mega launches of £45.8m Becketwell Live and Derby Market Hall, I ask is 2025 Derby's year?
Let’s get behind Derby, 2025 is going to be the city’s best yet
Derby is gearing up for an epic 2025, with two mega openings on the horizon - Derby Becketwell Live and Derby Market Hall.

The £45.8 million Becketwell Live performance arena has a capacity of 3,500. Its performances line-up includes John Bishop, Wet Wet Wet and Tim Peake.
Derby Market Hall, a Grade II listed building will showcase independent shopping, food and drink. It is a £35.1m project partly funded with £9.43m from the Government’s Future High Streets Funding.
Both venues are not open yet and are readying for a spring 2025 opening.
While researching another article of things to do in Derby, I discovered there were many experiences in the city that cannot be found nowhere else, such as a fabulous River Derwent cruise and wine tasting at a UNESCO Heritage Site in the city.
Derby offers plenty of fabulous, unique experiences for residents and new visitors alike, and the city has tonnes of potential which people are working hard to harness.
Derby’s top champions - and how you can be one too
Derby has some amazing city cheerleaders who may not brandish pom poms but their positive work is up there with the best.
Jamie Quince-Starkey (spearheaded Electric Daisy), Jay Dean (platforms local talent and grassroots live music), Bev Wakefield (turbo-charges community development with Vibrant Community Growth Programme) Visit Derby and Penguin PR (work tirelessly to shout out about Derby) - we have some of the UK’s best city champions, showcasing positivity.
Positive community movements start from the ground up. Get involved with community projects, share good news, get people involved.
I am also trying to be a force for good and champion initiatives such as digital detoxing and anti-loneliness - more on this coming soon.
Just to reiterate that nothing, and no-one is perfect; Derby is not a magical place, nor does it pretend to be and it shouldn’t be subjected to unwarranted negativity.
Derby is working hard to improve its offering and standing in the UK.
2025 is going to be a great year for Derby. Let’s amplify good news, positive movements and be city champions.
